چکیده مقاله:

The regular echinoids were recorded from Chennai Coast,Tamilnadu, South India and the animals were belong to 4 families, 5 genera and 5 species. An identification key to generic level and synoptic description are provided. Temnopleurid sea urchin Salmaciella oligopora (Clark, 1916) was recorded for the first time in 20-30m depth between Chennai and Pondicherry Coasts, South East Coast of India. Salmaciella oligopora molecular identification was confirmed using 18S rRNA sequencing and compared to Genbank. Salmaciella oligopora nucleotide analysis in BLASTn (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool of nucleotide) result showed 99% similarity in Genbank sequences. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed a close relationship to the Temnopleudiae family. Astropyga radiata  (Leske, 1778), Prionocidaris baculosa  (Lamarck, 1816),  Stomopneustes variolaris (Lamarck, 1816), Salmacis virgulata (L. Agassiz and Desor )1846, were recorded first time from Chennai coast.

First record of Diadema setosum (Leske, 1778) (Echinodermata, Echinoidea, Diadematidae) from Lebanon, Eastern Mediterranean

The Eastern Mediterranean basin is facing a high invasion rate of mainly Indo-Pacific species entering through the Suez Canal. The needlespined urchin, Diadema setosum, was first documented in the Mediterranean in 2006 off southern Turkey. The new record of D. setosum in September 2009 represents the first evidence of its presence in Lebanese coastal waters.

An occurence records database of Irregular Echinoids (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) in Mexico

BACKGROUND Research on echinoderms in Mexico began in the late nineteenth century. We present a dataset that includes the taxonomic and geographic information of irregular echinoids from Mexico, housed in four collections: 1) Colección Nacional de Equinodermos "Ma. Elena Caso Muñoz" from the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología (ICML), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); 2) In...

A diverse assemblage of Permian echinoids (Echinodermata, Echinoidea) and implications for character evolution in early crown group echinoids

—The Permian is regarded as one of the most crucial intervals during echinoid evolution because crown group echinoids are first widely known from the Permian. New faunas provide important information regarding the diversity of echinoids during this significant interval as well as the morphological characterization of the earliest crown group and latest stem group echinoids. A new fauna from the...

Description of two new fossil echinoids (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) from the Early Hauterivian (Early Cretaceous) of the Paris Basin (France)

Two new echinoid genera and species, Salvaster roberti gen. et sp. nov. and Pygolampas edita gen. et sp. nov. are described. They were collected in the Calcaires à Spatangues Formation (CSF) that consists of limestone and clay sediments deposited in the southeast of the Paris Basin (France) during the Early Hauterivian (Early Cretaceous). The CSF is dated from the Acanthodiscus radiatus chronoz...

Thyroid hormones determine developmental mode in sand dollars (Echinodermata: Echinoidea).

Evolutionary transitions in larval nutritional mode have occurred on numerous occasions independently in many marine invertebrate phyla. Although the evolutionary transition from feeding to nonfeeding development has received considerable attention through both experimental and theoretical studies, mechanisms underlying the change in life history remain poorly understood. Facultative feeding la...
